Commercial Tree Planting and Pre-Commercial Thinning. Both activities are conducted on steep terrain, 40% - 50% in grade. Tree planting: Clear an area on the ground with the use of a planting shovel, dig a hole deep enough that when the seedling is planted there is not a J-Root, place seedling in the ground and then cover the roots with the soil, tamping the soil to secure the seedling. Combined weight of the seedlings and the planting bag is 50 lbs depending of the size of the seedlings. Pre-Commercial thinning: Thinning is conducted with the use of a chainsaw, cutting undesirable and diseased trees, cutting and clearing brush and then hand piling the material in a prescribed manner for future disposal. Employee must maintain the chainsaw, sharpen the chain and ensure fluid levels are correct. Weight of the chainsaw and fluids in 30 lbs

COMMERCIAL TREE PLANTING WILL BE CONDUCTED ON STEEP TERRAIN, 40%-50% IN SLOPE AND DONE WITH THE USE OF A PLANTING SHOVEL. THE EMPLOYEE WILL CLEAR A SPACE ON THE GROUND, DIG A HOLE, CORRECTLY PLACE THE SEEDLING TREE IN THE HOLE WITHOUT PLACING THE ROOT IN A "J" SHAPE, COVER THE ROOTS WITH THE SOIL, AND THEN TAMP THE SOIL AROUND THE NEWLY PLANTED SEEDLING. THE EMPLOYEE WILL BE REQUIRED TO CARRY A PLATING BAG WHICH WILL CONTAIN THE SEEDLINGS, COMBINED WEIGHT IS ABOUT 50-60 POUNDS, DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE SEEDLINGS, UP AND DOWN THE STEEP TERRAIN, IN REMOTE MOUNTAINOUS AREAS. PRE-COMMERCIAL THINNING; THE CUTTING OF UNDESIRABLE AND DISEASED TREES, SPRAYING VEGETATION TO ELIMINATE UNWANTED UNDERBRUSH, BRUSH CUTTING/PILING OF LIMBS OF THE COMMERCIAL TIMBER WILL BE CONDUCTED IN ORDER TO PROMOTE THE GROWTH OF THE STANDING TIMBER. TREE LIMBS CUT AND BRUSH WILL BE PILED IN A PRESCRIBED MANNER FOR THE FUTURE DISPOSAL. THE THINNING WILL BE CONDUCTED WITH THE USE OF A CHAINSAW, EMPLOYEES ARE EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN THE SAW, SHARPEN THE CHAIN IN THE FIELD, MAINTAN CORRECT FLUID LEVELS, AND PROPERLY BREAK THE SAW DOWN FOR CLEANING. THE COMBINED WEIGHT OF THE SAW, FUEL AND OIL IS APPROXIMATELY 30 LBS AND MUST BE CARRIED UP AND DOWN DIFFICULT TERRAIN RANGING FROM 40%-50% SLOPE. THE EMPLOYEE MUST DEMOSTRATE THAT HE CAN WORK IN A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE MANNER., ACCESS IS GAINED TO THESE REMOTE AREAS BY TRAVELING ON ABANDONED, UNNAMED OR NUMBERED LOGGING ROADS THAT ARE MANTAINED.

Employee will pull formed boxes from the Box Former Machine, setting them on an empty box conveyer. Employees will maintain the packing lines stocked with box lids, packing paper, bags for pears, clips to seal bags in appropriately sized holding conveyors. Employees will cut open shook pallets and place cardboard in recycle bins. Employees will be assigned to clean facility such as sweeping pear leaves, extra access of packing paper on floor, cleaning tables, and picking up pears from the packing line floor. Employees will weigh containers of fruit, place packing supplies on the packing lines, place “socks” on fruit, assemble containers, repack and strip pack boxes of fruit, sticker containers, bags, and boxes. Employee perform fruit packing duties at the Diamond Odell & Central location. Almost all work is done at waist level. Employee places empty box on “horse” and with one hand takes fruit from belt and using other hand wraps and places into box until filled.
